Working on roof framing, upper floors and open structures carries a real risk of a serious fall. Fall arrest safety nets are installed as close as practicable beneath the active work area. If someone falls, the net reduces the distance they fall, progressively deflects and absorbs the impact. With enough clear space below, it helps prevent them striking the ground, a lower level or another obstacle.
Because the safety net protects the work area below the crew, people can move freely above it without clipping a lanyard on at every new position. The space above stays clear for framing, roofing and other residential construction work.
